Callaway Great Big Bertha Driver Review
Little did we know that in 1991 the birth of a golf driver could change the face of golf for decades to come. Named after the powerful and explosive World War 1 Mortar, The Big Bertha Howitzer. The 1991 Big Bertha (for its time) offered a very forgiving 253cc stainless steel head which really set the benchmark for the 'golf driver'.
Now the Great Big Bertha legend has returned to set another benchmark in our golf history and you could be a part of it. Callaway Great Big Bertha has arrived with a very aesthetically pleasing redesigned head. The reintroduction of the 10g perimeter weighting offers a simple weight adjustment to achieve the desired ball flight.
Slide weight towards the heel (DRAW)
Slide weight towards the toe (FADE)
The usual adjustments from the Big Bertha of last year have been carried over. This includes the Optifit hosel which allows for 8 different loft and lie settings to fine tune your ball flight for optimum performance. Allowing for a 2 degree loft increase or a 1 degree loft decrease coupled with the desired head position. This includes an upright (draw) or flatter (fade) lie angle (pictured below).
When comparing the head size to the new Big Bertha Alpha 816, you wouldn't think they were the same 460cc head capacity. The Great Big Bertha head looks larger than the limited 460cc allowance. Which does help provide the comforting 'ease of use' feeling over the ball. The technology advancement continues to the driver face. With the next generation R Moto face to provide unparalleled performance. The R Moto technology allows for a thinner face for faster ball speeds without sacrificing the all important dispersion.
A high performance Kuro Kage shaft gives the driver a very light and workable feel which achieves a very consistent ball flight. The stock standard Kuro Kage shaft isn't the 'watered down' mass produced version. Infact! This is the aftermarket edition that would usually cost hundreds of dollars as a custom up-charge.
Callaway haven't missed a single element out of the new Callaway Great Big Bertha and have even said “One yard lost is one yard too many”. A very confident statement. This proving that the Callaway Big Bertha is going to be a big hit for this season.
