Callaway XR16 Driver and Fairway Woods - Review
A driver that doesn't need much of an introduction. The Callaway XR16 has 'flown' into the golf headlines with their new affiliation with Boeing. A partnership that is unique, but very effective for both parties involved.
Boeing is an American multinational corporation that designs and manufacturers airplanes since it established in 1910.
It's like a SUPER TEAM with Both Callaway and Boeing being leading manufacturers within their industries, most of us would of used their services/equipment at some point in our lives.
Callaway managed to find out that the Boeing encounters similar physics during flight, to that of a golf driver. Meaning the experts at Boeing could redefine aerodynamics in the driver to achieve a faster possible club head speed. Will the XR 'take off' and 'land' in our golf bags or will we need to prepare for an emergency landing?
So what did Boeing change?
Do not worry! Your new XR16 will not arrive with a tray table hanging from the side of it, or a pair of wings and landing gear. All the Boeing influences are very much 'golf'.
In Callaway's words, Boeing helped them by "Pinpointing the size and placement of our re-engineered speed step to save weight and add more speed". This resulting in the XR16 setting the standard for aerodynamics and club speed by limiting drag. All the XR 16 range, which includes the Callaway XR16 Driver, Callaway XR16 Pro Driver, Callaway XR16 Fairway Wood and Callaway XR Pro 16 Fairway Wood have all received a Boeing 'face lift' for 2016.
The biggest engineering task with the XR16 was to create a driver that is both forgiving and fast. This is a combination that is very difficult to achieve, as you either end up with one or the other after production. The fact that Callaway have managed to apply both to the XR16 is somewhat outstanding!
A larger head shape has given the driver an increased MOI which results in less twisting during impact and fast speeds from every impact location on the face.
A new generation of the R Moto face technology is 19% thinner and lighter, that also translates to faster ball speeds across the face.
I really like the sound of this driver and I am really looking forward to giving this a test on our GolfBox Reviews Channel on Youtube as the Callaway Great Big Bertha really proved itself.
FIRST EUROPEAN TOUR WIN FOR THE CALLAWAY XR16 RANGE
It didn't take long for the XR16 to become successful on Tour in the hands of the very impressive Danny Willett. Danny loaded his bag with an arsenal of callaway equipment to win the Omega Dubai Classic, which added to his growing collection of tour wins. This was following Braden Grace's win just the week before. Both players are on the top of their game and great equipment like the XR16 is going to make them unstoppable.
