Evnroll Zero Series Putters
Posted by GolfBox on 5th Dec 2024
Zero torque is the hottest thing in putters right now and premium US putter manufacturer Evnroll joins in the fun with their new Zero range.
If you’re haven’t heard about the zero torque or torque free putter revolution yet, you might want to get acquainted. It’s a design that keeps the face square to the target line throughout a stroke, making it easier to return the face back to square at impact.
Evnroll’s new Zero line-up boasts three zero torque designs featuring classic, modern head shapes and they just might be the saviour you’ve been looking for on the greens.
HOW ZERO TORQUE PUTTERS CAN HELP YOU
To explain the significance of a zero torque putter design, let’s start with something that should be more familiar: toe-hang and face-balanced putters.
Most blade putters are toe-hang putters. If you were to balance a toe-hang putter on your finger, the toe would hang below the level of the heel. Meanwhile, holding a face-balanced putter the same way would result in the putter face pointing straight up to the sky.
Toe hang putters are well suited to golfers who have putting strokes that move in an arc while face balanced putters are typically suited for players who have a relatively straight-back-and-straight-through stroke.
However, zero torque putters don't have a balance point. And it’s this inherent design characteristic — where the centre of gravity of the head, shaft and grip is aligned with the centre of the putter face — that eliminates any torque, or twisting of the putter head, during a stroke.
IT’S ALL ABOUT THE HOSEL
The secret sauce of the Evnroll Zero range is its unconventional hosel.
The Evnroll Zero hosel is onset, which is in complete contrast to a traditional plumber’s neck hosel. The Zero hosel and shaft is positioned behind the putter face, rather than in front of it, like in a plumber’s neck.
But there's an excellent reason for this weird new Zero hosel configuration. It aligns the shaft with the centre of mass of the putter head, which has the effect of limiting the rotation of the face during a putting stroke.
The hosel effectivley provides Evnroll Zero putters with their zero torque characteristics and unique feel. Evnroll Zero putters don't feel like they're fighting you, and the onset design helps produce a smoother, more consistent stroke that will keep your putts tracking down the target line — regardless of how your hands and arms move the head in a stroke.
All you need to do is learn to let the putter swing naturally and let the putter do its work. Sounds good, right?
THE EVNROLL ZERO LINE-UP
If you’re new to the zero torque concept, Evnroll’s Zero range could be an excellent entry point into the category.
The trio of head designs in the Zero range, all milled from aircraft-grade aluminium, feature more traditional shaping compared to some of the funkier zero torque putters currently on the market.
It’s a distinction that should make the transition into the zero torque category much smoother for players who might be currently playing a classically-shaped putter.
EVNROLL Z1
The Evnroll Z1 is a high MOI, face-forward mallet. It’s the most funky shape in the Zero line-up and it’s available in black, red and blue. It’s loaded with twin 85g tungsten sole weights at the front of the sole and double white stripes along the head aid alignment in conjunction with the Z1’s zero cutout in the centre of the head (which can also be used to pick up balls).
EVNROLL Z2s
A wide-bodied, square back blade, the Evnroll Z2s is one of the most traditionally-shaped putters in the zero torque category. Its short and wide shaping riffs off Evnroll’s classic ER2 putter while heel and toe sole weights contribute to precise feel in the face forward blade putter. Alignment dots feature on the putter's topline while a single white stripe runs the length of the putter head.
EVNROLL Z5s
The Evnroll Z5s is a full-sized mallet featuring tapered wings that link up with a large rear bar. The face forward, zero torque, high MOI putter offers incredible stability, while heel and toe weighting on the sole enhances feel. The alignment bar on the Evnroll Z5s frames the ball at address, with dual alignment dots on the topline and a single white sightline aiding alignment.
DON’T FORGET ABOUT SWEETFACE
Speed is key to holing putts; as the saying goes, never up, never in.
The Zero putter line-up features Evnroll’s Sweetface technology which was created to standardise speed across the entire putter face.
Sweetface is a progressive groove pattern. The face grooves are widest in the centre of the putter face but become narrower as the grooves extend towards the heel and toe areas.
The Sweetface design restricts the pace of putts out of the centre but increases speed out of the heel and toe areas of the face to effectively standardise the transfer of energy at impact to deliver a uniform roll speed across the putter face.
As the Sweetface designation suggests, it’s like having one giant sweet spot for consistent speed wherever the strike occurs.
