Joondalup Resort Classic - Tournament Results

Home course hero Tom Addy stole the show at the Metal West Recycling Joondalup Resort Classic on Sunday.

Trailing NSW pro Alex Edge by a stroke heading into the final round of the two-day event, the gun Joondalup amateur used his local knowledge to outshine some of Australia’s leading professionals and claim a two-shot win.

In a unique final day shotgun start, 40 pros and amateurs went around a rerouted Quarry nine twice on Sunday.

Addy was paired with Edge and Victorian David Bransdon and the trio were tied for the lead after Addy and Bransdon birdied the second hole.

Bransdon took the outright lead after birdieing the third but Edge put the hammer down a hole later, four-straight birdies helping the Sydneysider take control and make the turn three shots clear.

But the leader’s birdie train would stop in its tracks on the back nine, a bogey at the 11th dropping him back into a share of the lead after Addy applied pressure with consecutive birdies to begin the back nine.

Bransdon briefly put his nose in the frame with a birdie at the 14th, however, Addy would make a birdie of his own to take the solo lead at 10-under.

The Joondalup youngster went on to par his final four holes and beat Edge and Bransdon by two strokes.

While he couldn’t claim the winner’s cheque, Addy was greeted with an enthusiastic reception in front of a large home crowd when he putted out for victory at Joondalup’s stunning quarry hole.

Addy beat a class field featuring current WA Open champion Deyan Lawson, former PGA Tour pro and defending champion Michael Sim, and emerging WA pro Haydn Barron - the PGA Tour of Australasia Rookie of the Year who will play the British Open at Royal Liverpool in July.

Addy, who lost to Ollie Marsh in the final of the WA Amateur earlier this year, continues the incredible production line of elite amateurs Joondalup Country Club has churned out over the past decade.

Addy’s clubmate Connor McKinney won the Australian Amateur in 2022 before recently making the transition to the professional ranks, while Josh Greer has been a stalwart for WA at the Interstate series.

South African amateur star Aldrich Potgieter, who played in the Masters last month, also came through the Joondalup program.
