MIZUNO ST-180 DRIVER – LONG AND SIMPLE
Mizuno decided that less is more when they designed their new ST-180 driver.
Less, with an absence of any sliding weight track for comprehensive ball flight adjustments. And more, as in more distance - loads and loads more distance.
The simplicity of the design is what makes the Mizuno ST-180 driver so long. In fact, the driver’s performance even shocked Mizuno, with the ST-180’s ball speed and spin rates catching everyone by surprise during product testing.
Mizuno’s rationale is that the weight saved by eliminating the weighting tracks can be concentrated lower and closer to the ST-180’s clubface for reduced spin. And to fulfil those distance-creating fundamentals, Mizuno turned to their Shockwave sole technology.
The Mizuno ST-180 is the first driver to be fitted with a Shockwave sole, which efficiently concentrates the mass where it needs to be to produce high-launch, low-spin drives that fly long distances.
A series of wave-shaped peaks and troughs are moulded into the ST-180’s sole and work in unison with a new variable-thickness forged SP700 titanium face to enable the clubhead to flex and rebound. This ‘Wave Technology’ increases the energy transfer between club and ball at impact and does a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes to the ST-180’s increased COR (coefficient of restitution) and remarkable distance.
The Mizuno ST-180’s light-as-a-feather ‘Waffle Crown’ retains structural integrity, but its lack of weight means mass can be redirected lower in the driver, to optimise the sweet spot and again boost the COR.
A simple quick-switch hosel allows lofts to be altered by up to four degrees (two degrees up or down) while a three-degree range of lie angle adjustment can tailor the Mizuno ST-180’s appearance at address to suit your eye - just before you smoke it down the middle.
An expanded range of premium shafts can be equipped free of charge to personalise the ST-180 to suit your game.
Resplendent in the famous Mizuno blue, the ST-180 is long - even for the fastest and steepest of swingers.
The Mizuno ST-180 driver is available in 9.5 degrees or a high-launch 12.5 degrees.
MIZUNO ST-180 Fairway Wood – FORGIVING FAIRWAY WOODS
Mizuno have bucked the trend towards smaller fairway woods by expanding the footprint of their new ST-180 FW fairway wood.
The ‘bigger is better’ design of the ST-180 FW will appeal to players who are looking for a forgiving fairway wood but aren’t so keen on the high-spinning ball flight that often accompanies larger-headed clubs.
To produce a low-spin, high ball speed launch, the Mizuno ST-180 FW has much in common with the Mizuno ST-180 driver: a Shockwave sole, Wave technology and a Waffle Crown all form the basis of the ST-180 FW fairway wood’s impressive performance by keeping the weight low and forward of centre. And Mizuno maintain the ST-180 FW will produce a low-spin launch even among faster swing speeds and steeper, more downward strikes - which is a critical factor when facing a tight lie on the fairway.
The Mizuno ST-180 FW gets a 1770 maraging steel face, which is tuned for a flatter, more efficient ball flight and the steel face is thinner and more responsive to produce higher ball speeds and greater distances than previous Mizuno fairway woods.
Just like the Mizuno ST-180 driver, the Mizuno ST-180 FW fairway woods can be equipped with a choice of shaft from a range of premium offerings and feature the same quick-switch hosel for easy loft and lie angle adjustments.
The Mizuno ST-180 FW’s bigger head looks - and is - more forgiving and comes in lofts of 15 and 18 degrees.
