NEW BETTINARDI MB24 and CB24 Irons
Posted by GolfBox on 1st May 2024
A wondrous collection of milled putters and wedges put Bettinardi on the map, but the latest addition to the Bettinardi range may well stop the earth spinning on its axis.
Bettinardi are now making… iron sets!
Yes, that’s correct. The boutique US manufacturer’s product line-up now includes not one, but two iron sets that evoke the Bettinardi pedigree and look supercool. It’s a buzz-worthy announcement that is sure to pour more fuel on the Bettinardi fire.
So, what are the irons like? Let’s find out.
CO-FORGED BODY & TRI MATERIAL CONSTRUCTION
Despite their classic aesthetic, Bettinardi irons feature some rousing state-of-the-art technology underneath their skin.
Both the MB24 and CB24 possess a forged 1025 carbon chassis, a material Bettinardi have considerable experience in when creating their famously exquisite forged feel.
But there’s a tension at play between the forged carbon steel and two other swanky materials that are inserted to elevate forgiveness: high density tungsten and a ceramic composite called CMC.
The tungsten and CMC inserts are positioned inside the head to tune the centre of gravity, which is optimised according to the loft of each iron.
It cultivates higher-launching long irons, and greater control and spin, and tighter dispersion, in the shorter irons.
And Bettinardi’s familiar honeycomb milling pattern features on both irons, elevating the traditional-looking Bettinardi irons far beyond bland and boring.
BETTINARDI MB24 IRONS
If there was a particular iron model that Bettinardi fans would mandate, it’d surely be a forged muscleback blade.
Well, true believers rejoice! The Bettinardi MB24 iron has arrived!
The MB24 is expected to win hearts and minds with its preening minimalism and tour-inspired head shape, which is more compact than its CB24 sibling.
But the MB24 veers slightly off course compared to a classic muscleback. Indeed, Bettinardi have characterised the MB24 as a “differential muscleback” iron.
What’s that mean? Bettinardi have added mass where needed and removed it where it’s less important, a nifty manoeuvre that is responsible for the less-than-traditional optics on the rear of the MB24 blade.
But the unconventional weighting technique hasn’t compromised feel, with Bettinardi forging the MB24 to promote a responsive feel and offer stellar feedback.
A thin topline heightens the player’s iron profile to provide plenty of shot-shaping swagger, while a sole design unique to every iron in the MB24 set optimises bounce to guarantee efficient turf interaction at impact.
BETTINARDI CB24 IRONS
The Bettinardi CB24 is a modern tour iron anointed with mega levels of distance and forgiveness. Yep, it’s a high achiever in the player’s-distance category.
Utilising the benefits of perimeter weighting in a modern cavity-back design, the CB24 offers stability and forgiveness. However, the volume gets turned way up when it comes to the CB24’s distance.
Like the MB24, there’s a lodestone of treasure hidden within the CB24’s head that offers a mesmerising amount of length throughout the set (see construction details below).
Purposeful mass placement amplifies forgiveness and also achieves a higher launch trajectory through every loft in the CB24 set.
Feel, forgiveness and distance is an enduringly popular combination but the CB24 iron also offers an appetising level of playability.
In short, prepare to be dazzled because Bettinardi CB24 irons are fully optimised for players of any skill level.
BETTINARDI IRON COMBO SET
The lofts of both the MB24 and CB24 iron sets are identical, which makes merging the two together in a combo set ideal. Bettinardi’s recommended combo set features CB24 irons in the 4-6 and MB24 irons from 7-PW.
