NEW TaylorMade Spider GT Putters (2023)

The OG of TaylorMade’s putting line-up, the Spider, is back with three new models, the GTX, GT 2023 and GT MAX.
The Spider putter has spun its web far and wide in the game ever since it burst on the scene in 2008, racking up wins and majors on tour and appearing in the golf bags of amateurs everywhere.
And last year’s first instalment of the Spider GT line was a completely bonkers success story, with the trio of putters re-establishing dominance in the high-MOI mallet category with their sophisticated head shapes and impressive performance.
So, what do the new Spider GT putters have in store for us in 2023?
In short, something old, something new; something borrowed and something… ice blue.
The Spider GTX evokes the original Spider, the 2023 Spider GT is a follow up to last year’s model, while the GT MAX is a first for TaylorMade - it boasts a sliding weight track on the sole that can dial in a range of customised flatstick performance.

SPIDER GTX PUTTER
The GTX closely resembles the classic Spider design in appearance but has a new back weight that elevates stability.
The success of the Spider range has largely been achieved by teaming a lightweight aluminium middle and top with a heavier stainless-steel structure that creeps around the outer extremities of the putter.
In the high-MOI mallet business, it’s perimeter weighting 101: shifting weight to the outside enhances stability.
The Spider GTX progresses its perimeter weighting pedigree with a revised back weight (154g of stainless steel) and larger aluminium core and top (194g).
And it’s a combination that is responsible for the Spider GTX mallet’s deeper centre of gravity, minimal face rotation and high stability.
The Spider GTX’s performance says it all. But TaylorMade want to give you more, with five colours to choose from: white, silver, black, red and… ice blue (women’s model only).
SPIDER GT MAX PUTTER
The GT MAX is a follow up to the Spider GT of 2022 but with one insane piece of engineering: adjustable sole weighting.
It’s the first time a Spider putter has weaved in a sliding weight track on the sole and the beauty of it is that you simply wouldn’t know it was there.
On the underside of the GT MAX, twin 40g tungsten weights can be set in three different positions along the heel and toe fangs.
- P1: Position One creates the deepest centre of gravity, highest stability and least face rotation
- P2: Position Two increases toe hang and face rotation
- P3: Position Three offers the most face rotation and highest degree of toe hang
In total, there are nine different performance settings possible between the two sole weights.
SPIDER GT (2023) PUTTER
The angular Spider GT 2023 putter doesn’t deviate too much from the 2022 model, which proved incredibly popular among golfers.
But one thing is immediately clear in the 2023 edition: red is out, monochrome is in.
The Spider GT is available in either black or white in 2023 but there’s no mistaking the putter’s unreal performance.
A lightweight aluminium core and top shifts weight out of the centre of the putter while steel side weights located in the “Spider fangs” concentrates mass along the perimeter of the putter.
Just 18 per cent of weight is located in the middle of the putter, which makes it extraordinarily stable and forgiving.
The Spider GT 2023 can be face balanced (Single Bend shaft) or Toe Balanced (21˚, Small Slant hosel).
