Taylormade M2 and M2 Tour Irons Review

It's no secret that Jason Day is one of the Longest players on Tour. With a average drive of over 300+ yards the Australian really doesn't hold back, but it's the height he launches the ball that separates him from the rest of the field. This was the design goal of the new Taylormade M2 Irons which manages to launch the ball higher and further than ever before.

M2 IRONS DON'T JUST GO FARTHER THAN THE COMPETITION, THEY GO HIGHER. MEANING YOU'LL NOT ONLY HIT THE GREEN, YOU'LL STAY THERE.

Taylormade are calling the M2 their 'longest iron ever'. With a compact design that doesn't offer any more distance, the extra length is achieved by launching the ball higher at impact. This allows the engineers to strengthen the lofts whilst still managing to generate a higher launch than the PSi and PSi Tour models.

Speed Pockets make a return in the 3-7 irons, but with a slight relocation that is further from the sole to help provide that extra launch. The big story however is the new fluted hosel that manages to save 3 grams of weight from the hosel and position it lower and deeper in the clubhead, which enhances feel and launch throughout the set. This may not sound like a big weight shift, but it does make the difference and definitely adds to the overall launch gains achieved. A 3-dimensional badge and a 6% larger unsupported face area makes the M2 sound much better than previous models.

If you require distance and forgiveness in a less offset compact head, then the Taylormade M2 Tour will suit you. A 360° Undercut removes weight from the top line of the iron for more compact visuals. This also lowers the CG location for easier launch.

Target Golfer?

These irons will really benefit the golfer with a steeper angle of attack, as they tend to de-loft the clubface which consequently lowers launch off of the face. This tends to come with large divots and a slice/fade shot shape. To get a professional opinion visit one of our GolfBox stores for a PGA custom fitting - Find your Nearest Store
