Taylormade Milled Grind 2 Wedges

Posted by GolfBox on 12th Aug 2019

The CNC milling machines at TaylorMade have been working overtime because the new TaylorMade Milled Grind 2 wedges are now available.

The tour-grade wedges feature the same precision CNC milling on the sole that made the original TaylorMade Milled Grind wedges so effective through the turf, but have some added extras that will have you spinning, splashing, flopping and chipping like the pros do.

Featuring sharp, clean lines, a raw, laser-etched face for increased spin and an optimised centre of gravity for precise flight control, expect the TaylorMade Milled Grind 2 wedges to exceed your expectations on the course.

Grinds and Bounce

There are two sole grinds to choose from: LB (low bounce) or SB (standard bounce).

The LB (8 degrees of bounce) has a narrow, crescent-shaped sole grind that aids open-faced shots around the green. It's effective in medium-to-hard turf and suits players with a shallow angle of attack.

With a broader sole grind pattern, the SB (9-12 degrees of bounce) is the all-rounder of the two TaylorMade Milled Grind 2 options. It is versatile, being effective on both full-swing pitches as well as greenside feel shots and will cope with soft course conditions better than the LB grind. Golfers who rotate the clubface open and closed during their swing or those who have a steep attack angle will prefer the SB grind.

The Tech

TaylorMade have used automated CNC milling on the soles of their Milled Grind 2 wedges to guarantee exact bounce and grind specifications.

Finishing by machine rather than hand eliminates human error, which means each TaylorMade Milled Grind 2 wedge leaving the factory will be consistently faithful to the specs that are stamped on it.

New narrower, sharper and deeper grooves with a tighter edge radius provide exceptional stopping but probably the most notable change to the face of the Milled Grind 2 wedges is the laser etching between each groove.

The tiny grooves – which appear as two rows of dashes in between the regular grooves – roughen the face to generate more spin, particularly on shots around the greens.

The raw face of the TaylorMade Milled Grind 2 wedges will also begin rusting as soon as the plastic wrapping is removed, enhancing the feel and spin rates of the clubs.

On the reverse side of the wedges, TaylorMade have introduced a couple of noteworthy changes to the Milled Grind 2 wedges.

A urethane insert has been added to the back cavity to absorb unwanted vibrations and improve feel at impact.

And mass has been shifted to the top of the clubhead to improve flight control by raising the centre of gravity and moving it away from the heel - an important CG tweak that aids open-faced shots.
