Taylormade SIM UDI & DHY Driving Irons (NEW 2020)
Posted by GolfBox on 12th Aug 2020
TaylorMade’s driving irons have long been among the most reliable fairway finders in the game and on September 4, TaylorMade will introduce two new models: the TaylorMade SIM UDI and SIM DHY.
Both clubs represent a further refinement of the revolutionary and versatile concept that has saved many a golfer from the driving yips and provided a get-out-of-jail-free card from all manner of lies out on the course.
The SIM UDI replaces the P790 UDI in the TaylorMade line-up, while the new SIM DHY subs in for the previous TaylorMade GAPR model.
It’s reasonable to suggest both new clubs will be the first out of the bag when splitting the middle is non-negotiable.
TAYLORMADE SIM UDI
The new TaylorMade SIM UDI, which stands for Ultimate Driving Iron, is a hollow-bodied iron that features the whole suite of TaylorMade’s formidable iron technology.
With tour-inspired shaping, a thin topline and negligible offset, the SIM UDI offers a degree of workability and flight control that tour players require. But its penetrating ball flight, distance-enhancing technology and abundant forgiveness makes it suited to all players who need a trusty fallback option to find a fairway.
A thin and flexible C300 face has been aided with the injection of TaylorMade’s patented SpeedFoam, which provides support while damping vibrations to create a dynamic impact feel and solid impact sound.
A Thru-slot Speed Pocket also gets a gig in the SIM UDI to boost the performance of low strikes, correcting launch and aiding distance to help you get away with thinned shots.
The SIM UDI is available in two lofts (2-18° and 3-20°) and can be customised with a choice of shafts and grips, while loft and lie angles can also be altered to suit.
TAYLORMADE SIM DHY
The TaylorMade SIM DHY veers slightly more towards hybrid, with a wider sole and larger head than the SIM UDI.
DHY stands for ‘driving iron-hybrid’ and the new club’s design makes it extremely versatile and effective, be it off the tee, from the fairway or out of the rough.
The SIM DHY is ultra-forgiving and offers ease-of-launch to appeal to players with slower swing speeds. But the DHY also achieves a much higher trajectory than the UDI, making it an ideal long iron replacement in any player’s bag.
Like the SIM UDI, the DHY features a Thru-slot pocket and flexible C300 face to maximise ball speed across every section of the face, while its head is injected with SpeedFoam to optimise impact feel and strike acoustics.
The SIM DHY is available in four different lofts (2-17°, 3-19°, 4-22°, 5-25°) but can be tailored with loft and lie angle adjustments and shaft and grip options.
