The phrase 'forgive and forget' gets bandied around a lot, but TaylorMade's engineering department appear to have lived by the mantra when it comes to designing their latest addition to the driver market.
TaylorMade's new 2017 M1 driver, to be launched on January 27 (Pre-order here), is a progression of the company's original M1 driver.
The good news for golfers is that the 2017 M1 460 driver is an altogether friendlier and more forgiving driver than last year's model, according to our review by resident GolfBox flusher Alex Etches.
The even better news is the marked increase in forgiveness means you can forget about the really big miss with the latest TaylorMade M1 driver: it now flies straighter and longer. The philosophy behind 'forgive and forget' means you can swing with increased confidence knowing the TaylorMade design team have done their homework.
Underpinning the improvement in the 2017 M1 460 is a 43 per cent increase in the use of carbon fibre components compared to the 2016 M1.
The carbon fibre now migrates all the way to the toe section of the club, with the resulting weight reduction in that area opening up opportunities to build in forgiveness.
The M1's distinguishing weight sliders - the T-track system - have been repositioned in the 2017 M1, with the front-to-back weight slider now able to be adjusted even further towards the rear of the club.
More weight in that area effectively creates a higher launch angle and improves the 2017 M1's forgiveness. The T-track weights are also slightly heavier, which results in even greater control of the launch parameters to dial in a fade or draw/high or low ball flight to suit everyone's game, from hacker to flusher.
The new TaylorMade M1 driver has a larger footprint, which enhances the 'can't miss' feel, but it is also lighter than the previous model thanks to a more efficient design of the titanium structure inside the clubhead.
The M1 460 is available in 8.5, 9.5, 10.5 and 12.0 lofts.

Sitting alongside the M1 460 are the M1 440 , M2 and M2 D-type drivers. Also in the TaylorMade M family are M1 and M2 fairway woods and rescues, and M2 iron sets.
2017 Taylormade M1 440 Driver
The M1 440 is a smaller-headed version of the M1 designed for golfers who like to work the ball. The 440cc M1 driver increases playability but retains the same launch and spin characteristics as the 460cc version.
The M1 440 is available in 8.5, 9.5 and 10.5 lofts.
2017 Taylormade M2 and M2 D-Type Drivers
Just like the previous M2 model, the latest TaylorMade M2 forgoes the T-Track weighting system. Major improvements are similar to those in the M1, with increased use in carbon fibre and reduction in weight resulting in more forgiveness thanks to an improved centre of gravity.
An interesting addition is the M2 D-Type , which has more weight distributed in the heel area to manufacture a draw bias. The D-Type will appeal to golfers who struggle with a slice and are looking to gain more distance with a draw ball flight.
The M2 and M2 D-Type are available in 9.5, 10.5 and 12.0 lofts.
2017 Taylormade M1 Fairway Woods and Rescues
The 2017 M1 and M2 range share the same weight saving and carbon fibre characteristics that are carried through the driver range.
The M1 range of fairway woods and rescues features a single adjustable weight on the sole to select a draw or fade bias. The M1 fairway woods have a three wood loft of 15 degrees and the M1 rescue comes is set at 19 degrees; however, the loft can be adjusted by a couple of degrees using the hosel adjustment collar.
2017 Taylormade M2 Fairway Woods and Rescues
M2 fairway woods come in a three wood loft of 15 degrees and rescue of 19 degrees but are without the weighting system that features in the M1 range. However, the M2 fairway woods and rescues feature a speed pocket on the sole, to improve off-centre strikes.
2017 Taylormade M2 Irons
A low centre of gravity and speed pocket technology deliver more distance and improved trajectory control in the 2017 M2 TaylorMade irons.
Forgiveness is also improved in the M2 iron range by utilising Face Slot technology, which assists shots that come off the heel or toe.
