Titleist Vokey SM10 Wedges
Posted by GolfBox on 29th Jan 2024
Wedge maestro Bob Vokey knows that small details in wedge design add up to big performance gains, an ethos that has made his Vokey wedges the most popular in the game.
Uncle Bob believes the most important club in the bag is confidence, which is why he’s engineered more spin and trajectory control into his new SM10 wedge line-up via some small yet significant enhancements. Feedback from some of the best players in the world — including Max Homa, Wyndham Clark, Tom Kim, Jordan Spieth, Ludvig Aberg and Cam Davis — has been invaluable in driving innovation in the new SM10 wedges.
But importantly, it doesn’t interfere with the feel that makes Vokey wedges so unique and loved by golfers of all skill levels.Offering six grinds and 25 loft, bounce and grind combinations, SM10 wedges are designed to perform anywhere, for everyone who plays the game. For total wedge performance and precision control, Uncle Bob’s extraordinary SM10 line-up will have you covered.
Titleist Vokey SM10 wedges are available in three finishes: Tour Chrome, Jet Black and Nickel.
IMPROVED DISTANCE AND TRAJECTORY CONTROL
Been thinking you’d love a lower trajectory with your higher lofted wedges and more consistent distance gapping in the lower lofted ones?
Good news. Vokey has been thinking the same.
Vokey SM10 wedges have been designed with a loft-dependent centre of gravity to improve flight and trajectory and promote consistent distance control.
The stronger lofted SM10 wedges (46-52°) feature a lower centre of gravity. It is intended to create a smoother transition from the iron set into the wedges, thus improving distance gapping between a player’s PW and the lowest lofted wedge in the bag.
The lower-lofted SM10 wedges also feature a CG closer to the middle of the face, which helps minimise a drawing ball flight — a bugbear that was raised in player feedback.
Meanwhile in the higher lofts (54-62°), the CG has been shifted higher and forward. It lowers trajectory while also promoting a squarer face at impact.
SHOT VERSATILITY
Vokey reckon they’ve got everyone covered, no matter how you swing it and where you play.
You see, there are 25 unique loft, bounce and grind combinations to choose from in the SM10 wedge range.
There are some that’ll suit diggers and some that’ll perfectly match sweepers of the ball. Soft turf, firm turf or out of the sand, Vokey will also have an SM10 wedge fit for purpose.
The SM10 range includes the T-grind, a low-bounce lob wedge option that is one of the most played grinds out on tour. And there’s also a new addition to the M-grind: a 54° wedge with 8° of bounce that’ll be perfect for anyone looking for a low-bounce, strong-lofted wedge.
COME IN SPINNER
A wedge lives and dies by its spin rates, which is why Vokey SM10 wedges are geared to maximise spin in every loft.
The stronger lofted wedges in the SM10 range are cut with deep and narrow grooves while the weaker lofts feature wider and shallower grooves.
It’s designed to generate more iron-like spin and performance in the lower lofted wedges (given the tendency to use them with a full swing) and promote higher spin and more green-sucking grip on shorter shots around the putting surface in the higher lofts.
Vokey employs a spin milled groove cutting process for extreme precision and have also applied a heat-treatment to the face of to ensure the grooves remain sharper, spinnier and more durable.
SM10 wedges also feature a fine textured pattern between the grooves. It’s designed to boost spin on partial shots and create higher, and more consistent, spin across the entire SM10 range.
VOKEY SM10 GRINDS
Whether you’re steep or shallow, a digger or a sweeper, or play off firm turf, soft and friable turf, or somewhere in between, there will be an SM10 wedge to suit your game.
There are six SM10 grinds to choose from:
F grind: A traditional grind that offers full access to the sole. Ideal for full wedge approaches and square-faced shots.
S grind: Mid bounce, geared for square-faced shots. Suited to neutral to firm turf and an excellent option for players who control loft with their hands.
D grind: Bevelled leading edge from heel to toe, for players with a steep angle of attack. Good option for soft turf.
K grind: Extra wide sole with high bounce, designed to beat any bunker. Particularly forgiving and suited to soft conditions.
T grind: Low bounce, narrow sole that is perfect off tight lies and firm turf, yet highly versatile around the greens.
M grind: Mid-to-low bounce, ideal sole for open or closed faced shots around the green and a sweeping angle of attack.
