Min Woo Lee What's in the Bag? (2024)
Posted by GolfBox on 22nd Nov 2024
Min Woo Lee may be one of the best golfers in the world, but he still can’t claim the title of best golfer in his family. His sister Minjee is a two-time major winner and the friendly sibling rivalry that exists between the Perth-raised pair has propelled both to great heights in the game. While Minjee is clearly more introverted, Min Woo’s extrovert personality has seen him become one of golf’s modern-day entertainers. He is among the most Insta-popular golfers in the game, with over 400,000 followers and counting, and his “Let him cook” catchphrase follows him wherever he tees it up.
Min Woo Lee has claimed three DP World Tour wins, the most recent coming at the Australian PGA Championship in late 2023 when he famously donned a chef’s hat in deference to the fans during the final round. The 25-year-old is playing full-time on the PGA Tour in 2024.
What clubs does Min Woo Lee use?
Let's take a look what's inside Min Woo Lee's bag.
WITB UPDATE: 21/11/2024: Min Woo plays a Callaway Opus wedge and an Odyssey Ai-ONE #7 putter. (DP World Tour Championship)
MIN WOO LEE DRIVER
CALLAWAY PARADYM TRIPLE DIAMOND S DRIVER (10.5°)
Min Woo’s performance off the tee is a major strength of his game and his Paradym Triple Diamond driver will help him hit plenty of bombs off the tee in 2024. But importantly, it will also allow him to work the ball. While Callaway’s Triple Diamond Paradym driver has a slightly smaller head (450cc) compared to the regular Paradym driver models, Lee plays the tour-only S variant with a 420cc head. It is a low-spinning, low-launching driver that offers a neutral ball flight. The smaller head helps Min Woo hit draws or fades off the tee with incredible consistency.
The Triple Diamond S driver features a carbon fibre chassis, which saves weight and concentrates mass lower in the head to increase forgiveness. Lee briefly played the new Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond S driver in early 2024 but returned to his 2023 Paradym driver. A Fujikura Ventus Blue 6 X shaft is installed in Min Woo Lee’s driver.
MIN WOO LEE FAIRWAY WOODS
CALLAWAY PARADYM Ai SMOKE TRIPLE DIAMOND HL (3W 16.5°)
Min Woo’s three wood is specifically made for better players with fast swing speeds - which seems to sum up our man Min Woo perfectly. It’s a Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond, which is the most compact fairway wood model in the Ai Smoke line-up and is also the lowest-spinning and lowest-launching. Positioned just behind the face on the sole is a weight that shifts the centre of gravity forward, reducing spin and promoting a penetrating ball flight. It gives Min Woo the distance and confidence to tackle just about any par five green in two. And when he wants to dial it back off the tee, the Ai Smoke TD three wood should help him find the fairway more easily. A Fujikura Ventus Blue 9 X shaft is fitted to his three wood.
MIN WOO LEE HYBRID
CALLAWAY APEX PRO UTILITY (20°)
Bridging the gap between Min Woo’s three wood and four iron is a Callaway Apex Pro hybrid. It features a compact head that makes it both workable and versatile. Lee employs his Apex hybrid to hit soft-landing second shots into the greens on long par fives. Lee pairs a Fujikura Ventus Blue HB 8 X shaft with his Apex hybrid.
MIN WOO LEE IRONS
CALLAWAY APEX MB (4-PW) - CALLAWAY X FORGED UT (2)
Min Woo Lee has a set of Callaway Apex MB irons in his bag and they’re shiny, yet scary, muscleback blade irons made for the crème de la crème of ball strikers. They feature a narrow sole width and ultra-thin top line, giving Min Woo the ability to shape and flight the ball while providing a soft feel and superb feedback. Min Woo’s Apex MB irons are the 2018 version, which has since been replaced by Callaway’s current Apex MB irons.
Meanwhile, Min Woo relies on a Callaway X Forged UT iron as his long iron replacement. It’s a game improvement-style cavity back iron that launches high and fast, which makes it ideal for holding the green on long approach shots. It is far from the most forgiving utility iron, but it offers decent off-centre strike performance and the precise level of feedback Min Woo requires. Min Woo’s Apex MB irons feature Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100 shafts while his utility iron is fitted with a True Temper AMT Tour White shaft.
MIN WOO LEE WEDGES
CALLAWAY OPUS (50°) - TITLEIST VOKEY SM9 (56°) - VOKEY DESIGN WEDGEWORKS (60°)
Min Woo’s assortment of wedges allows his short game creativity to flourish. He uses his 50° Callaway Opus wedge primarily to attack the pin from outside 100 yards. Callaway's new Spin Gen face technology enhances the consistency of the Opus wedge, with extra grooves and tighter spacing complemented by a new microgroove pattern and quartz blast on the face. It means Min Woo's Opus wedge will grip the cover of the ball to create plenty of spin.
Min Woo’s other two wedges are Titleist Vokeys: a 56° SM9 and a custom made 60° Wedgeworks prototype. Both wedges offer Min Woo the opportunity to showcase his incredible skills around the greens and out of the sand, which have seen him develop into one of the best scramblers on tour. The SM9 wedges have now been replaced by Titleist Vokey SM10 Wedges.
MIN WOO LEE PUTTER
After playing an Odyssey Ai-ONE Milled Six mallet in the first half of 2024, Min Woo Lee made a subtle shift to the fanged Odyssey Ai-ONE #7 mallet. The putter features Odyssey's A.I. designed face insert, which normalises speed off the entire span of the face for more consistent performance. Min Woo's #7 mallet is installed with a triple sightline and a slant neck hosel which offers aggressive toe hang. The putter is paired with Odyssey's Stroke Lab shaft which is counterbalanced to aid a smoother putting stroke.
OLD PUTTER: ODYSSEY Ai-ONE MILLED SIX T DB PUTTER
When the new Odyssey Ai-ONE range of putters dropped, it seems Min Woo took note. Because not long after, he switched from his Odyssey Tri Hot 5K Double Wide blade to one of the new Ai-ONE models. Min Woo began 2024 with an Ai-ONE Double Wide putter in his bag but switched to the Ai-ONE Milled Six T DB mallet not long after. Its classic mallet head shape is complemented by an A.I.-designed White Hot insert that offers more consistent speed and straighter putts from off-centre strikes. The insert provides a soft and solid feel and is paired with a new lightweight Odyssey Stroke Lab shaft featuring a counterbalanced grip that promotes a smoother putting stroke.
MIN WOO LEE GOLF BALL
CALLAWAY CHROME TOUR X GOLF BALL
Min Woo plays the new Callaway Chrome Tour X golf ball, which features the highest spin rate of any ball in the 2024 Chrome range. An overall compression of 98 gives the Chrome Tour X a firm feel off the club face. However, the balls offer plenty of stopping power on the greens and gives Min Woo total control over his spin rate and trajectory - for every club in his bag.
