Rickie Fowler What's in the Bag? (2024)
Posted by GolfBox on 30th Oct 2024
While he carries the burden of being the best golfer without a major, Rickie Fowler’s freewheeling style and casual demeanour on the course has long made him a fan favourite. He is one of the most likeable pros on tour and while his trademark orange outfits don’t appear nearly as often as they once did, Fowler appears closer than ever to winning his first major.
Rickie held the lead heading into the final round of the 2023 US Open at Los Angeles Country Club then broke a four-year winning drought a couple of weeks later when he claimed the Rocket Mortgage Classic (June 26-July 2) in Detroit. At the ZOZO Championship in Japan, Fowler logged his best finish of 2024 when finishing fourth.
What clubs does Rickie Fowler use?
Let's take a look what's inside Rickie Fowler's bag.
WITB UPDATE 30/09/2024: Rickie switches to a L.A.B. Golf DF3 putter at the Sanderson Farms Championship.
RICKIE FOWLER DRIVER
After having success with his Cobra Aerojet driver last year, Rickie switched to Cobra’s new Darkspeed driver at the American Express Championship in early 2024. The new Darkspeed driver offers an aerodynamically efficient head shape that improves ball speed off the tee. After starting with the low-spinning/low-launching Darkspeed LS model, Rickie switched to the Darkspeed X model that offers a balance of speed and forgiveness. Featuring a forward and rear sole weight port with 12g and 3g interchangeable weights, Rickie is able to tune his Darkspeed X driver for either more forgiveness or more speed by swapping the weights.
The Darkspeed X’s mid-launch window saw Rickie manually tune his driver loft down to 7° to maximise his speed and distance. A Project X Denali Black 70 TX shaft is fitted to Rickie Fowler’s Darkspeed X driver.
RICKIE FOWLER FAIRWAY WOODS
COBRA AEROJET LS THREE WOOD (14.5°) - COBRA LTDx LS FIVE WOOD (17.5°)
Rickie sticks with a pair of tried-and-true Cobra fairway woods in his bag: a 2023 Aerojet three wood and a 2022 LTDx five wood.
They both produce a low flight and low spin rate, which clicks with Rickie’s high swing speed and helps him squeeze out extra yards of distance with a penetrating ball flight.
The Aerojet LS and LTDx LS both possess a forward centre of gravity that cuts spin. Both clubs also feature a pair of sole weights that can be arranged to produce a neutral flight or fade bias. Rickie’s three wood is matched with an Aldila Tour Green 75 TX shaft, while a UST Mamiya LIN-Q M40X White 8F5 shaft features on his five wood.
RICKIE FOWLER IRONS
COBRA KING TOUR FORGED IRONS (4-PW)
Rickie’s set of Cobra King Tour Forged irons are compact player’s irons that offer a perfect balance of workability, control and forgiveness. The irons are forged from soft 1025 carbon steel while a vibration-damping thermoplastic insert is positioned directly behind the sweetspot. It’s a combination that provides the irons with a soft forged feel and superb feedback. While he previously used Cobra muscleback blade irons, Rickie’s cavity-back King Tour Forged irons offer slightly more forgiveness when he fails to strike it flush out of the middle. KBS Tour C-Taper 125 S+ shafts feature on all of Rickie’s Cobra King Forged Tour irons.
COBRA KING SNAKEBITE (54°, 56°, 58°)
A trio of Cobra King wedges provide Rickie with all the spin, versatility and confidence he needs when hitting into, or around, the greens.
Rickie’s current Cobra King wedges are all 2016 models, so they are a familiar bunch. Cobra’s latest wedge is the Snakebite, which features a new face milling pattern and the impressive Snakebite groove design. Snakebite grooves are sharper and larger, which promotes maximum spin and significant stopping power on the greens. Cobra Snakebite wedges are available in three grinds: Versatile, Classic and Widelow.
RICKIE FOWLER PUTTER
L.A.B. GOLF DF3 PUTTER
After playing a custom Odyssey Versa Jailbird putter for a couple of years, Rickie switched to a L.A.B. Golf DF3 putter in late 2024.
The L.A.B. Golf DF3 is a high MOI mallet that is designed to stay square on its own (L.A.B. stands for lie angle balanced and the DF stands for directed force). While the putter isn't exactly pretty it's extremely forgiving, which should help Rickie hole more putts.
RICKIE FOWLER GOLF BALL
Rickie was the player who helped TaylorMade develop the Pix version of their TP5/TP5x range. However, he doesn’t play the Pix in tournaments, preferring to use TaylorMade’s standard white 2024 TP5 ball. The 2024 TP5 is softer than the TP5x and it spins more. In fact, it is the softest and spinniest TP5 TaylorMade have ever created. It also offers low-spinning performance off the tee to maximise distance but isn’t quite as long as the TP5x.
