Cobra LTDx Driver, Fairway, Hybrid & Irons (2022)

Posted by GolfBox on 25th Feb 2022

There are a couple of things you really need to get acquainted with to fully understand why Cobra’s new LTDx range of golf clubs is about to rewrite the record books for performance in 2022.

The first is something called CGna. The second is a PWR-COR. The new LTDx driver is the first to achieve a zero CGna (centre of gravity, neutral axis) as well as an MOI northward of 5200. We’ll spare you the physics lecture but that is kind of a big deal, both for Cobra and their chief driver aficionado, Bryson DeChambeau.

More on that later, but what’s it actually mean practically? Cast your mind back to last year’s Radspeed line-up, which used radial weighting to improve the triple threat of ball speed, launch and forgiveness.

PWR-COR works in a similar way. It’s just even better. PWR-COR’s array of steel, aluminium and tungsten weighting is uniquely arranged in every LTDx driver, fairway wood, hybrid and iron model to deliver faster ball speeds across the board and more forgiveness too. PWR COR’s optimisation of mass might not be the sexiest tech story ever, but the new Cobra LTDx range of clubs is living proof it works like a record-breaking dream.

Drivers

The first driver with a zero CGna, the three LTDx models feature record-breaking performance.

Fairways & Hybrids

PWR-COR weighting pushes the CG forward for high-speed and highly-forgiving versatility.

Irons

Game improvement irons that are big on distance and forgiveness yet tuned for customisation.

Cobra LTDx Drivers

What Cobra have accomplished with the LTDx driver doesn’t immediately lend itself to any kind of marketing jargon.

It’s the first driver to achieve both a zero CGna figure and an MOI of 5200, and while it’s not considered “catchphrase-worthy”, it is extremely significant. CGna refers to the Centre Of Gravity, Neutral Axis, which is an imaginary line running perpendicular to the face that intersects with the back of the head. When the CG is as close as possible to this line (i.e. at its zero point), forgiveness and ball speed are both maximised.

In simpler terms, it’s another way of saying the LTDx driver is the fastest, longest and most forgiving driver Cobra has ever made.

Driver Technology

PWR-COR Tech

Strategically positioned steel, titanium and aluminium weighting pushes the CG low and forward, making the LTDx the ultimate long, low-spinning driver.

H.O.T. Face

The new A.I.-designed H.O.T. (highly optimised topology) face increases smash factor and maximises ball speed across the entire face span of the driver.

Milled Infinity Face

Now extending around the leading edge, the CNC-milled Infinity face expands the area of max ball speed on the face and also serves as a visual alignment aid.

Multi-Material Chassis

Cobra’s titanium speed frame is complemented by an expansive carbon fibre crown and sole, optimising weight positioning to enhance stability.

The Three Cobra LTDx Drivers

The folks at Cobra were so rapt with their new LTDx driver, they didn’t want anyone to miss out. So they made three versions - the LTDx, LTDx LS and LTDx MAX. Each model is customised to fit a segment of the golfing pie chart, so you’ll always get the right driver for your swing.

Cobra LTDx LS Driver

The LTDx LS is designed for flushers of the golf ball who prefer a degree of workability in their driver. It is the lowest spinning driver in the line-up, thanks to its forward CG, while twin sole weights (3g and 10g) can produce a draw or fade bias - the heavier weight in the toe for a fade, or in the heel for a draw.

Cobra LTDx Driver

As the core driver in the range, the LTDx will appeal to the golfing masses. Cobra have achieved equilibrium between front and rear weighting, with a 10g static weight and 5g tungsten screw on the back balancing the low-spin/high-launch flight against an ultra-stable and forgiving driver head.

Cobra LTDx MAX Driver

The MAX is the draw-capable driver in the LTDx line-up. It has the same forgiveness and distance as the LTDx, but twin weights (3g and 10g) and a rear/heel configuration make will slam the door on a slice: heavier weight in heel = draw, lighter weight = neutral. There is also a women’s LTDx MAX driver.

Cobra LTDx Fairway Woods

As far as fairway wood-driver couplings go, they don’t come much tighter than the Cobra LTDx range.

Just like the drivers, the LTDx fairways feature the dynamic PWR-COR-H.O.T. face pairing, a combination that is extremely effective in boosting ball speeds and forgiveness. And replicating the LTDx drivers, the fairway woods follow the same customised performance via three models – LTDx, LTDx LS and LTDx MAX fairways.

But the new fairways aren’t merely a carbon copy of the LTDx drivers. Cobra’s attention to detail is succinctly summed up in the baffler rails on the sole of the fairway woods – all except the three wood, that is. Cobra believe the shallower and more sweeping swing associated with the lowest-lofted fairway wood is better suited to having no baffler rail. It makes the LTDx fairway wood range the most versatile in the game and, with three models, they’re longer, faster and more forgiving across all skill levels.

Fairway Wood Technology

PWR-COR

Cobra’s PWR-COR weighting system pushes the CG of LTDx fairways low and forward, creating a low-spin ball flight and hot ball speed off the face.

H.O.T. Face

The LTDx face is so H.O.T. (highly optimised topology), with 15 zones of varying face thickness increasing ball speeds off every part of the face.

Progressive Rails

Rail-less three woods are designed to assist a more sweeping swing, while prominent twin rails improve turf interaction on higher lofted woods.

Lightweight Crown

A new type of carbon fibre in the crown is thinner, allowing extra weight to be positioned low in the head for more forgiveness and improved launch.

The Three Cobra LTDx Fairway Woods

With three different models in the LTDx fairway wood range, clearly there are no more excuses! Customised flight, forgiveness and launch characteristics make each fairway wood perform uniquely – just choose the one to suit your game.

Cobra LTDx LS Fairway

Created for better players with high-end swing speeds, the low-spin LS is the most workable of the three LTDx fairways. Twin sole weights (3g and 12g) are placed forward in the head, to cut spin, but placing the heavier weight heelside or toeside will produce a draw or fade bias, respectively.

Cobra LTDx Fairway

The LTDx fairway is versatile and easy to hit and launch, with its high, straight ball flight intended to benefit the majority of golfers. A single fixed back weight (8g) powers its high-flying performance, but it also generates awesome forgiveness and exceptional distance for off-centre strikes.

Cobra LTDx MAX Fairway

The LTDx MAX is the answer to a habitual slicer’s woes, with its draw-bias helping to shut the face at impact. Mirroring the core model LTDx fairway in forgiveness and speed, the MAX straightens up a shocking slice via rear and heel side weighting. It’s also available in a women’s version.

Cobra LTDx Hybrids

Cobra’s LTDx hybrids offer some serious low-spinning, high-launching performance that is hard to ignore.

As long-iron replacements or the answer to a distance gap question, LTDx hybrids will land soft on the green through a combination of PWR-COR weighting and a forged and flexible face cup that propels the ball high and long.

From the fairway, rough or a tight lie in the sand, the LTDx hybrid is a club you can rely on.

Hybrid Technology

Cobra LTDx Irons

Cobra’s new LTDx irons are unashamedly game improvement sticks that have distance as their main goal. But based on their performance, there is likely to be plenty of interest from outside their intended target demographic.

The introduction of some innovative and interesting new tech will help golfers with slower swing speeds reach their potential, but there’s a decent chance better golfers will be tempted by the distance and stability offered by the LTDx irons. A new stability bar is the big reveal, with the component increasing the flexibility of the face to create faster ball speeds and more distance. And feel isn’t forgotten either because the stability bar is encased in vibration-killing urethane, for sweet feel and direct feedback – two characteristics that better players will be wanting more of.

Iron Technology

PWR-COR

A central steel bar encased in a polymer skin enables the body, face and sole of the irons to flex more, boosting ball speed and distance.

Cobra LTDx Iron Tech - PWR COR

PWRSHELL Face

With a forged face cup, LTDx irons are faster across a wider area of the face and more consistent when strikes aren’t out of the middle.

Speed Tuned Weighting

Customised weighting features in the LTDx iron range, with the standard 8g toe weight able to be substituted for anything between 14g-2g at fitting.

The Two Cobra LTDx Irons

The same sweet LTDx iron performance is available in two different packages – choose between standard Cobra LTDx irons and Cobra’s ONE Length versions.

Cobra LTDx Irons

Tech-laden game improvement irons are all about maximising distance for those players who need it most. And Cobra LTDx irons tick that box because they are longer than ever, with a multi-layer PWR COR central to the cause. But no other distance iron offers customisable swing weighting like the LTDx irons do, with performance able to be tuned via an interchangeable toe weight during a fitting.

Cobra LTDx ONE Length Irons

The Bryson DeChambeau-inspired LTDx ONE Length irons are designed for consistency and repeatability. Possessing the same head design as the core model, the irons are fitted with 37.5 inch shafts (seven iron length) and are calibrated with unique lie angles, offsets and sole widths. It optimises high launch in the long-to-mid irons and lower trajectories and control in the short irons and wedges.
